This little guy recently came to us covered in scrapes from being attacked by a cat and with a badly ruptured anal gland. He is such a little trooper though! Despite being in what must be some pretty terrible pain, he is as sweet as pie. Luckily, he is now on the road to recovery with pain medication and antibiotics on board. He will also need to have some teeth extracted in the near future, and has to be neutered before he will be available for adoption. His bills are up over $2000 at this time.
We currently have 24 dogs, 53 cats, and 16 small animals in care! Including 15 kittens, who will start to be available for adoption next week! Please consider become a monthly donor for the Medicine Hat SPCA today. $10/month = $120/year, and that sure goes a long way towards helping us pay for their every day care and medical needs. www.medhatspca.ca/services/donate
We wanted to extend a huge THANK YOU!!!!! to our friends over at Muttley Crew. The girls groom our animals for free for us on a weekly basis. They always find the time to fit our dogs in, and give them so much love and care while they are there. We love you Muttley Crew!
We are very excited to announce that we now offer the Walks n' Wags Pet First Aid Certification course! This informative 10 hour Pet First Aid Course is a must for everyone who volunteers, works with, or owns dogs and/or cats. Participants earn a certificate through hands on practice with real animals, and 100% of the course fees goes back to the MHSPCA to help even more animals.

You may be one of our followers on Facebook, or you read about us in the media, or perhaps you volunteer at the shelter and see the animals we care for on a daily basis - animals that are injured, homeless or unwanted.
Maybe you have adopted an animal from us in the past and have stayed connected to us to show your appreciation for the work we do, and for bringing that special pet into your life.
On Tuesday July 26 at 7pm, the Medicine Hat Mavericks and 102.1 CJCY are hosting their 2nd Annual 'Bark at the Park' night! Head down to the game at Athletic Park and bring your pup! Puppy tickets are $5 each, and 100% of the proceeds go back to the MHSPCA. We will also be showcasing adoptable dogs during some of the innings!
We are in urgent need of canned kitten food! With over 25 kittens in care, we can't keep up with the demand of their little tummies. Please consider donating today!
Other items we are in urgent need of are:
- Weight Management food for cats (Royal Canin if possible)
- Royal Canin food for Adult dogs, and cats
- Cat toys
This weekend, we were thrilled to be able to participate in a spay/neuter clinic put on at the Stoney Tribe First Nation by the Alberta Spay Neuter Task Force. In total, 401 dogs and cats were spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and dewormed! Above and beyond that, 112 dogs and cats were relinquished into their partnering rescue groups. This was the first clinic we have assisted with, and we look forward to volunteering at many more! We were able to bring home 3 dogs, to try and help them find new homes in Medicine Hat.
Rabbits make wonderful free-roaming indoor pets. House rabbits and indoor cats can get along fine. But, adding a second rabbit is easiest if the rabbits are neutered, adults of opposite sexes, and they are introduced for short periods in an area unfamiliar to both rabbits. Rabbits are adorable and brimming with personality.

Do your children enjoy visiting the MHSPCA? Would you like them to keep up with their reading skills over the summer? Why not join the Book Buddies Program!
Book Buddies is a volunteer program for children ages 6-11 (with a parent/caregiver) who can read at any level. Children can come to the MHSPCA with their favorite book, or can borrow one from our library, and read to a cat, dog or bunny.
